UNITED WAY OF KNOX COUNTY 2012 CAMPAIGN IN FULL SWING (GALESBURG, IL) After a successful campaign last year, the United Way of Knox County officially began its 2012 annual campaign on September 5, 2011. This year’s campaign will be co-chaired by Judy Guenseth and Bev Nixon. "We are once again lucky this year to have two tremendous community-minded leaders guiding our campaign", said United Way of Knox County Board President, Kelli Bennewitz. "Judy and Bev bring a spirit of enthusiasm to our entire team and we are looking forward to a successful campaign." Judy Guenseth is the Director of Tourism for the Galesburg Area. She was the director of CASA of Knox County, a United Way Agency, from 2005 to 2010. She strongly believes in her community by volunteering at the Mary Davis Juvenile Detention Home and in several civic and community groups. Judy accepted the position of co-chair for the United Way Campaign in order to raise support and awareness for the hard working agencies that make a difference in the lives of thousands of people in Knox County. Bev Nixon has been involved with United Way for many years primarily in the Special Events area and filling in wherever else necessary. Bev was born in Galesburg and has been involved in many clubs and organizations over the years. She is the part time financial secretary at First Presbyterian Church. She has started decorating for people again and sells all products needed and is painting. She and her husband Jim are very active in the community and their church and love to golf, travel and spend time with friends. Bev says, "United Way is one of the few places where you can donate money and be assured that all of it will remain in Knox County and a very small percentage goes for overhead. I believe we all need to help those that cannot help themselves.....and the services of the 23 agencies affect MANY people from all walks of life." Early campaign efforts have already begun with Pacesetter companies running their campaigns since early summer. This year’s Pacesetters include F&M Bank, First Mid Illinois Bank & Trust, First Midwest Bank, G&M Distributors, Galesburg Broadcasting, Office Specialists, Target, and United Parcel Service. This year’s monetary goal is $360,000, which is $10,000 more than last year’s goal. Last year, over 36,000 individuals were served throughout Knox County through the programs administered by the partner agencies of the United Way of Knox County. The United Way of Knox County Co-chairs, staff, board of directors and partner agencies will be visiting area businesses to speak to employees about the United Way’s partner programs and asking for their support during this year’s campaign drive. If your business would like to begin an employee campaign, or for more information on how to be involved in this year’s campaign, please contact Ann Tucker at (309) 343-4434. The United Way of Knox County is an independent, locally controlled private organization governed by a volunteer board of directors elected from Knox County, Illinois that provides support to 30 programs at 23 human service agencies in Knox County.
