| 17,500 pounds of food were collected on May 9, 2009 |
On May 9th, the United Way of Knox County and the National Letter Carrier’s Association are partnering together once again to collect non-perishable food items for FISH, a local United Way agency. Last year an amazing 17,500 pounds of food was collected in Galesburg and re-distributed through the FISH food pantry to Knox County residents requiring emergency food assistance. In January over 1000 people received groceries from FISH, so the need is greater than ever.
We need your help! We are calling on the generosity of schools, churches, volunteer organizations, work places, families and individuals to leave non-perishable food items for your local letter carrier. Please help us to assist more people by going beyond last year’s food collection total!
If you wish to donate your time, volunteers are needed at FISH to sort the food brought in by the carriers. If interested, please call the United Way Office at 343-4434.
The Community’s support is vital to all that we hope to accomplish. Thank you for helping our community to Live United™.
