CAMPAIGN BEGINS SEPTEMBER 7TH
2009-2010 goal set at $370,000 After a successful campaign last year, the United Way of Knox County will officially kick-off its 2009-2010 annual campaign on Monday, September 7, 2009
This year’s campaign will be co-chaired by Marv Dahlberg, city Treasurer, Chris Ryner, business development officer with IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union and Barry Swanson, long-time District 205 educator and visiting professor and coach at Knox College.
Dahlberg first served as a campaign co-chair in 1986. He was co-chair with Martin Reichel last year and successfully exceeded the campaign goal of $360,000 by over $8,000. He is the past president of the Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Council. Dahlberg is the President of the Credit Bureau and serves on numerous boards.
Ryner was born and raised in Galesburg and is a graduate of Galesburg High School. She served as the CEO for 15 of her 22 years with Midwest Community Credit Union prior to the merger with IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union. Ryner is a past president of the Galesburg Rotary Club, WIN board member, Chamber Ambassador, Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association board member, Chairperson of the Galesburg Chapter of Credit Unions and is a Leadership Greater Galesburg graduate.
Swanson is a life-long Galesburg resident. He was a teacher, administrator and coach in District 205 for 26 years. Swanson is a visiting professor and coach with Knox College.
Early campaign efforts have already begun with the 2009-2010 Pacesetter companies running their campaigns ahead of the kick-off on Monday. This year’s Pacesetters include F&M Bank, First Bank, First Midwest Bank, G&M Distributors, Galesburg Broadcasting, Office Specialists and United Parcel Service.
This year’s goal is $370,000, and the theme is “Live United. Give. Advocate. Volunteer.” Last year, over 35,000 peopel were served through the programs administered by the partner agencies of the United Way of Knox County. Volunteers at the United Way of Knox County and its partner agencies gave over 56,000 volunteer hours which equates to over $1.1 million dollars. The United Way of Knox County Co-chairs, staff, board of directors and partner agencies will visit local businesses to speak to employees about the United Way’s partner programs and asking for their support during this year’s campaign drive. If your business would like to begin an employee campaign, or for more information on how to be involved in this year’s campaign, please contact Ann Tucker at 309 343-4434.
The United Way of Knox County is an independent, locally controlled private organization governed by a volunteer board of directors elected from Knox County that provides support to 31 programs at 23 human service agencies.
