After a successful campaign last year, the United Way of Knox County will officially kick-off its 2008-2009 annual campaign on September 1, 2008.  Today, the United Way officially announces its campaign co-chairs, goal, and theme of this year’s campaign.

Marv Dahlberg, City of Galesburg Treasurer, and Martin Reichel, owner of McFall Monument will co-chair this year’s campaign. This year’s monetary goal is $360,000, and the theme is
                                             “Live United. Give. Advocate. Volunteer”.

“I have volunteered to serve as United Way Campaign co-chair because I truly believe that charity begins at home, with neighbor helping neighbor”, says Martin Reichel.  “United Way volunteers keep the cost of fundraising to a minimum and ensure that maximum dollars go to programs of local agencies that have been vetted by those same volunteers.  Every cent you give makes our community a better place.”

Marv Dahlberg says, “I look forward to continuing the work of the many volunteers in Knox County who have, year after year, relied on the generous support of individuals and companies to ensure the needs of partner agencies will be met.  We have great caring people in Knox County and I think we have excellent programs that need our help.  By uniting together in giving, we can all help meet our local challenges.  The United Way makes it easier, by working together, to support our twenty four partner agencies.”

Last year, through the generosity of the Knox County community, the United Way exceeded its goal of $350,000.  Through employee campaigns, corporate gifts, and individual contributions, the money raised was used to help support 32 programs administered by the 24 partner agencies of the United Way of Knox County.

"We know that this campaign will be a challenge given our economic climate.  Everyone is feeling the effects of high gas prices to expensive grocery bills” explains executive director Ann Tucker.  “Unfortunately, as our economic climate worsens, the need for assistance increases dramatically.  We need to make sure that those who need help are taken care of, and that’s what our partner agencies do day in and day out. We do know the Knox County community is extremely supportive, generous, and sympathetic to helping those who need the services provided by our partner agencies, and we are counting on their support again this year.”

This year’s pacesetter companies will kick start the campaign by conducting their campaigns in August.  Those companies are F&M Bank, Office Specialists, NAEIR, Bruner, Cooper & Zuck, Galesburg Broadcasting, First Midwest Bank and First Bank.

Beginning in September, the United Way of Knox County Co-chairs, staff, board of directors and partner agencies will be visiting area businesses to speak to employees about the United Way’s partner programs and asking for their support during this year’s campaign drive.  If your business would like to begin an employee campaign, or for more information on how to be involved in this year’s campaign, please contact Ann Tucker at (309) 343-4434.

The United Way of Knox County is an independent, locally controlled private organization governed by a volunteer board of directors elected from Knox County, Illinois that provides support to 31 programs at 24 human service agencies in Knox County.
